The totally unofficial, totally unsupported IBM Connect 2013 session database - NOW AVAILABLE

Over the last few years, one of the most useful tools leading up to Lotusphere (now IBM Connect) has been the outstanding Session Database provided by Ben Langhinrichs.

A few weeks ago Ben announced that he wouldn't be producing the database this year.

Never fear, it's not gone - a group of people are working on a replacement, which you can download HERE ( <- Right-Click, Download).

Figure 1: IBM Connect 2013 session DB, version 1:

Connect 2013 Sessions

Thanks to some support from Vitor Pereira, Andreas Ponte, Andreas Imnitzer and Giulio Campobassi this fabulous resource is again under development.

Once you have downloaded and unzipped the file, just put the sphere2013.nsf database in your Lotus (AHEM!) IBM Notes data directory, choose the session you want to attend, and then click "Add to Calendar".  It's that easy.  You can also keep your local replica up to date just by clicking on the "Sync with Server" action, which will connect to the fabulous Tim and Gabriella Davis's servers at the Turtle Partnership and keep your information up to date.

Keep an eye out.  More features will be available soon.

Hi Mat,

first of all > Thank you, Thank you, Thank you !!! This database is very helpful in planning the Connect 2013 session...

But I always receive the error "Object variable not set", when I try to "Add selected to my calendar"...

The problem is in the line:

Set dtStart = doc.Session.GetFirstItem("StartTime").DateTimeValue

Any ideas ?? Thx a lot and best regards

Rainer

Thanks for the feedback guys - Fixed in the Download now.

If you have already replicated the database, please replicate it with the "Sync with Server" tool, or download the file again.

@11, Rainer: Replicate using the "Sync with Server" tool one more time mate, or Download the database again using the link above. Issue with a couple of records not having fully populated fields. All fixed now :-)

First of all many thanks for providing the database which allows me to plan for Connect 2013 more easily than with the IBM systems. I wanted to try out whether you had considered different time zones when adding the sessions to my calendar. However, when I try to add a session I just get an error "Object variable not set" and nothing happens. Sync with Server did not fix it yet, but anyway, keep going ...

Might I suggest that you add the session ID at the front of the calendar subject entry when adding to calendar ? e.g. IDnnn: Session Title

30David Bell  01/11/2013 9:00:42
The totally unofficial, totally unsupported IBM Connect 2013 session database - NOW AVAILABLE

One more suggestion, since speakers can often be the deciding criteria for 2 sessions at the same time, could you append speaker names in parens () after the location maybe so they are visible at a glance ?

31David Bell  01/11/2013 9:01:13
The totally unofficial, totally unsupported IBM Connect 2013 session database - NOW AVAILABLE

Oh - that last suggestion was once again for the entries copied into personal calendars, not in the source database :)

Don't suppose anyone has the IP address to connect to the server, my client cannot find it and I need to therefore create a connection document for replication purposes.

Excellent Job!!!

this is really fantastic !!!!

@15 Jürgen, time zone is working correctly with the database. While adding entries to your calender, just ensure to set your system clock to the same time zone (gmt-5) and all entries will be added correctly. Worked for me on OS X like a charme.

Mat, Andreas's, Vitor and Giulio you all do a very useful and appreciated job. Will bring some Swiss Chocolat (@mat can't bring a Bratwurst ;-) )

In case you haven't come across it yet, we have created a session journal app based Mat's database. The app is available for iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones and tablets and the Blackberry Playbook and the Blackberry Alpha Dev OS10 devices.

The app is developed in Flex and uses the soapgate Q! web service API for Domino (both are open source). Links to the apps can be found here:
